I have students who come from a variety of backgrounds. I want to make sure they are able to see themselves reflected on the pages of a book. I have created this project to find books that have strong African American, Hispanic, and female characters. Students are more likely to fall in love with reading if they can relate to a character, a subject, or a theme. By providing books within my classroom library, ( and/or to use as read alouds via Zoom if needed), I will be able to show my students that there are characters and themes in literature they can relate to. My hope is that my students will leave my classroom and be avid readers. I feel that reading is one way to enhance the mind and to take you where you want to go.
