The main priority of my classroom is helping students to recognize their level of anxiety and frustration prior to it becoming overwhelming or a behavior (verbal aggression, physical aggression, self harm..) We have many supports in place to help them to be able to achieve this. Our biggest support available to students is their reset space. They are able to utilize this space whenever they need (frustrated, tired, angry, distracted, hyper, silly, etc). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my students need access to regulation tools that are individualized and not shared with anyone else, in order to keep them safe. This project goes to funding individual tool boxes for each student with supports that they normally have in the classroom. Included, are different types of sensory fidgets, theraputty, and weighted lap pads. These are all items that are not easily cleaned after each use. With all the changes that have happened since March, I would like to provide my students with a sense of stability when they enter my classroom this year. We are returning on normal time. I want to ensure each student has the supports and materials they need to successfully regulate their emotions and bodies during this unsure time. Their social-emotional well-being is the top priority.
