These books will serve as mentor texts within my reading curriculum. They will bring forward strong characters of diverse backgrounds allowing the children to connect and relate to stories from around the world. My hope is that every student in my class will feel represented, important and valued thanks to finding themselves within the pages of these books. A students ability to relate to characters and situations in literature helps deepens comprehension. Having a library that gives every student a voice is something I have been working towards for the last 13 years.
