Last year was my first year teaching sixth grade and I had a really hard time teaching all of the standards (while re-learning them myself). This year I am going to try a new approach....I know it sounds crazy but I am going to teach the standards using BOOKS! After all, isn't the whole point of teaching kids how to read is so they'll grow to be readers and enjoy reading? By donating to my classroom, you will be ensuring that each of my students get their very own novel to read and discuss remotely. My students will be reading diverse books in multiple genres as well as covering all of the standards necessary to be a successful reader! In addition to the novels, I am also asking for a gift card to TPT so I can purchase a reading curriculum that not only explicitly teaches the sixth grade reading standards for both literature and informational texts, but also uses the standards with novels so students can demonstrate their knowledge. The chart paper can be used both at home and at school to help make teaching and learning visible!
