We believe in the power of our students to make a difference in our community and in the world. These books are part of our school-wide effort to update the materials and lessons we provide in our diverse school community. By updating our library of books, it is our hope that our students (Pre-K-5) will be able to read about characters who not only look like them and their classmates and share some of their experiences but also reflect the perseverance, kindness, and creativity that we see in them every day. For students, reading highly relatable stories will allow them to identify with the characters, and facilitate a deeper comprehension of the text because they are making personal connections. Additionally, we believe having access to stories that reflect a variety of people who may not look the same or believe the same things, but share similar experiences and skills is invaluable in deepening our student's understanding of the value of diversity.
