Never before have I considered teaching simultaneously to students virtually and in the classroom. To teach math lessons, I currently have a computer, document camera, overhead projector and glossy showerboard/whiteboard. The glare that is projected from this board often makes it difficult for classroom students to view the math being shared. In turn, it will also be difficult for virtual students to view what is projected. This technology will never successfully meet the needs of my learners. With a smart television, teachers and students can use Chromecast and interactive internet or computer-based software such as, Nearpod, Flipgrid or Kami, to engage successfully with math lessons. As the teacher, I will be able to cast student strategies on the television for both home and classroom students to easily view. This will provide each learner an equal level of engagement and connection to the math lessons that are being taught. Students with learning disabilities will also benefit from the interaction and engagement. Team teaching with special education teachers can continue to take place in this setting. Also, educational videos, games and various activities can be shared simultaneously with both learner types. Classroom discussions can then take place that will enhance the learning for everyone. The capabiltities of a smart television will take sharing, discussions and engagement to the next level.
