It is critical that students are able to find books that reflect themselves and their interests. I teach ELA in a large, public high school and want to show my students that there are actually books out there that can resonate with them. I want to ensure my classroom library reflects diversity and gives all my students choices that our small school library does not. I have selected several books by prominent African American YA authors and added science fiction and fantasy titles to appeal to many types of readers, both avid and reluctant.
