These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning for two reasons: Research indicates students who master letter formation early on, acquire literacy skills sooner and more solidly. But in order to master letter formation, students need strong fine motor skills and multi-sensory opportunities. The easel with paints and brushes, the water/rice table with scoops and beads, the scented markers, the play doh, and blocks all help strengthen fine motor! Plus, they're super duper fun. By supporting this project, you're not only helping kids learn but you're guaranteeing them more fun in their school day. Two, also related to literacy, this project's selection of diverse children's literature is more important than ever at this moment in time. I just completed Columbia University's Teachers College Reading Institute, a world-renowned program. All of these books were recommended by Teachers College staff members. Please help my students gain perspective about race and culture through excellent literature. I am anticipating students will need their own set of everything when we return to school in the fall. I'm expecting seventeen students, so that is why I have requested seventeen of certain items. Everything else I will be able to disinfect after each use. Thanks a bunch for helping my fantastic first graders!
