As a School Physical Therapist I have the honor of working with some of the most amazing kids and parents. My job is to help my students improve their ability to physically participate in all aspects of their school day and maneuver around their school environment. Some of my students have difficulty safely walking through the halls or up and down stairs so we work on balance by walking on a line or standing on one foot, other students have delayed gross motor skills which means they can’t play catch with their friends or keep up with other kids during jump rope in PE class. My students all have unique needs but they all require intervention to allow them to fully participate in their school day with their peers. This year, with the addition of tele-health services, my students will need the proper equipment to ensure that they have the opportunity to work on their goals, even when learning from home. My hope is that each student will have their own therapy kit that can be used during our tele-therapy sessions for remote learning or during in person learning to ensure single use of all items for each kid. The kits will include: a beach ball for ball skills, strengthening and balance; a small bouncing ball for ball skills and balance; a jump rope for gross motor and strengthening; painters tape for balance, jumping and strengthening; stickers to use during balance and strengthening activities; a balloon and bean bag for gross motor activities and a bag for all items to be stored and transported.
