In-person Physical Education classes are full of movement, from beginning to end. I design lessons so that there is minimal down time; students are engaged, targeting health-related fitness components like cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength and endurance, and improving gross motor and sport specific skills. It is an amazing endeavor to motivate and prepare our youth for healthy adult lifestyles. During distance learning, not having that personal contact to encourage and provide instant feedback hindered the amount of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity students were engaging in. Being able to provide Mac-T Pedometers to students at home would be the motivation needed to keep kids active and promote fitness awareness. Using pedometers can contribute to goal setting and achievement, accountability by providing accurate data, and to a multitude of health benefits, for example stress relief and improved cardiovascular health. Students will wear the pedometers daily, track their total steps for each day, and record it in a Personal Step-counter Log that will be shared with their teacher. Students will also write goals based on their number of steps.
