I will be introducing my 3rd grade music students to a unique and fun instrument, the ukulele. I’ll be teaching them some basic chords, strumming patterns, and songs. The time it takes to learn an instrument like the ukulele sharpens the brain and helps sustain attention and focus as well as improving hand and eye coordination. The ukulele is within the kids' ability to use and understand and small enough to make it ideal for young children. It is durable enough to stand the test of time, even when subjected to heavy use from class after class of children over the years. It is also suitable for 3rd grade students who are old enough to properly care for instruments and handle some technical theory.
