The situation regarding our return to school is still fluid due to the increasing COVID-19 cases in Hillsborough County. However, based on the Florida Education Commissioner's recent executive order, it appears that we will indeed be returning to our classrooms this August - with masks or face coverings being required for all students and staff. Desks will have to be rearranged to encourage social distancing, and the transaction of papers/pencils/books and other materials will be restricted to decrease the spread of germs. This means students will be doing many of their assignments digitally on their own electronic devices, to reduce the need for them to touch too many surfaces in the classroom. AHS does not have enough laptops to provide for every teacher's needs, and I know from my previous years of teaching that not all students have access to their own personal laptops, tablets, or even cell phones. In the past, I've had to provide paper copies for students who do not own any electronic devices. In these changing times, I hope to attain at least five Amazon Fire tablets to aide in this hybrid face-to-face/digital learning process. Students who do not have the ability to bring a device from home can borrow a tablet from me during class to access the internet, visit Canvas (our district's learning management system), and complete assignments. Between class periods, I will personally sanitize these devices to ensure that the next group of students has clean tablets to borrow. I appreciate any amount that you can contribute, and I will ensure my students are respectful and responsible with this technology so that I can utilize it in my classroom for many, many years to come!
