As we get ready to enter a new school year there are still many unanswered questions on what learning will look like due to the pandemic. Moreover, in today's classrooms it is critical that students are seeing themselves, and diversity, being represented in books we read. Diverse books will be shared with students via live zoom meetings and recorded lessons. These books will also help start critical conversations about race-related issues/topics and help students process the events around them. Diverse books with POC, that focus on critical topics for second-grade students, are an important part of education virtual or in person. A key aspect of our daily school routine and learning is partaking in read alouds. These books would allow me to expose students to diversity and representation of all students in my class, while also educating students on our differences, acceptance, and creating positive change in our world.
