Students come to school much different than they did just 5-10 years ago. Students have so many social and emotional needs, and I feel that I do not have enough resources or activities to adequately teach them strategies to overcome and learn to deal with these needs. Mental health, trauma, and social/emotional needs are a part of everyday life in each classroom. We also have no idea what some students have experienced during this pandemic. I feel I need to be prepared to teach differently and social/emotional health is a big component that will need to be addressed. By funding my project you will give me some strategies, activities, and lessons that will allow me to assist my students in learning to cope with their social/emotional needs. Not all students come to school ready to learn; however, with these strategies and activities I can better prepare them to be successful and ready to learn. I can use the books for read alouds or discussions, the writing prompts, or matching games with all students. Students will also have their own individual journal to focus on ways to improve themselves. All students can and will learn, I just need to find fun and creative ways to help them feel better about themselves and learn to talk or cope with their needs. Your funding this project will definitely help me begin to help my students better.
