Flexible seating allows students to have choice in the classroom. Rather than sitting in uncomfortable desks lined in rows for several hours a day, students are allowed to choose their own seats in a more relaxed, comfortable environment. This includes wiggle seats, ball chairs, floor pillows, sofas, and traditional desks. Providing multiple seating options in single seats, partner, and small group arrangements also allows for multiple learning options. As students take charge of their environment, they become more engaged and committed to their educational goals. The teacher then works to facilitate learning in a welcoming, fluid environment.
