My students are sweet, compassionate, and incredibly curious. They are eager to learn more about themselves, their history, and the world around them. These kids are courageous enough to have important conversations in the classroom. They allow themselves to be vulnerable; and therefore, allow for moving, empowering, and healing work to occur in our class community. Their zest for learning, growing, and making a difference constantly reminds me of my purpose and it inspires me every day. Many of my students come from low-income households that are rich repositories of accumulated cultural knowledge. They bring a special blend of background knowledge, personal life experiences, skills, and world views to our Title I school and they reflect a wide range of cultural and linguistic diversity similar to that of our urban community.
