As a school counselor, I am looking to expand my library of resources to show diverse perspectives and texts as I work with individual students, classrooms, and small groups. The project is to compile a library collection of children's books that I can use in my work and lend to teachers in our school that serves over 600 students in grade PreK through 5th. We want our students to hear from diverse voices and texts as they cultivate social-emotional skills such as empathy, understanding, and advocacy. Through the development of a collection of books with diverse characters, perspectives, and stories I know that our students will grow to feel affirmed in their own identity while also appreciating the perspectives and experiences of others.
