Research shows that having books in series promotes reading development in children. That is why I have requested several chapter book series. In addition, particularly at this time, it is important for students to see books about diverse children and written by diverse authors. The majority of the books I have requested fall into those categories. Furthermore, the titles I have chosen do not only tell tales of suffering, nor are they set in the distant past. These books will speak to my students and the lives they are living now.
