My EL students are bright and talented individuals who just need a different approach to learning. I want to go beyond just teaching them reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. I want to create standards based learning opportunities, to differentiate for all learning levels. What is great about technology is that it lends itself to differentiation because it is controlled by the individual user. I want my learners to be able to apply knowledge in a way that is engaging and meaningful for them, capture their emotion, encourage them to build a writing web, write descriptive sentences, and even share their work digitally! My students LOVE to be independent and let me tell you it is wonderful letting someone else teach while exposing them to new learning experiences. I would love hearing their science vocabulary as they act like mini meteorologists on the local news or work on solving problems independently and then scan QR codes to get immediate feedback. Here is just a quick list of additional learning opportunities this technology would allow for my English Learners: Discussion Starters Activity Cubes Answer Keys for Self-Guided Work Project Exemplars Make Interactive Bulletin Boards and Posters Virtual Tours and Gallery Walks Scavenger Hunt Voice Recordings
