My students LOVE reading; they devour books at incredible speeds, and they learn so much from each title they read! Having a diverse classroom library is SO IMPORTANT, so every student can see themselves and their culture, while also learning about other cultures and ways of life. These books are just a few titles that I want to add to my collection, to allow my students to understand what different people experience in their lives. It is my goal to guide students to being active, engaged citizens who are open-minded, empathetic, and ready to fight for what is right. My students care about the world around them, and want to create a world free from things like systemic racism, sexism, and hatred of all kinds. These titles, and others, are one way I can help to broaden their perspectives and allow them to really understand what other people experience, or to see their own experiences written in print. I have used Novel Studies every year since I started teaching. Unfortunately, next year is going to look really different from anything any of us has every experienced! I am going to NEED to have enough of each book for students to take home and read at their own pace. Please help my students and I to continue our learning, reading, and growing as humans ! The titles listed here mostly focus on Native voices, Hispanic Heritage, and Inclusion of Students with Exceptionalities. I have other titles in my room that I've bought myself for including other perspectives!
