My goal is to reorganize the current classroom library I have, which is based on reading level, and change it so that it is based instead on topics and genres. My wish list contains both paperback and hard-cover books on diversity. I would like to put all of the paperback books from this wish list in a bin and label it Books about Diversity. Prior to making that bin available for student use, I will use the hard-cover books to introduce the topic of diversity to children in an explanatory way, full of discussion and clarification. They will be encouraged to ask questions to me and each other. Having discussions about diversity and sharing literature with children that explains, honors, and emphasizes the plight and successes of diverse individuals is critical these days. I am excited to be a part of helping children investigate this topic and form healthy attitudes regarding diversity that will develop as they grow!
