The books that I listed include many Black Scientists and Mathematicians whose stories are under-represented in our schools. We will use the books to not only learn about these innovative leaders, but to develop themes that will encourage all of us to stay positive about our future. It is my hope that learning about the accomplishments and struggles of these Black Scientists and Mathematicians will inspire my students to persevere through these trying times and aspire to make positive contributions to our community. The books I am requesting will become my summer reading list for my students and will eventually become the heart of my classroom library. Students will choose the book that they would like to borrow and read over the summer. I will mail/drop off the book to them. We will meet virtually throughout the summer to discuss their book and give them an opportunity to share the book with their classmates.
