I will be using these children's books in direct instruction video lessons to introduce big concepts in history. These books will aid me in facilitating discussions, introducing new lessons, and helping students understand current events and their connections to history. These books are great for giving students a quick look into a major concept or issue. We can also support literacy with the help of these books without having to do a full novel study in Social Studies. We can do a deep dive into a smaller book while still connecting to our content in a meaningful way! Also, no matter how much they want to insist that they do not like story time, my middle schooler's LOVE a good picture book!
