By donating to our project, you will not only help to create a sense of community where diversity is openly discussed and celebrated, but students will have the ability to choose how they will receive the learning. The books I have chosen were selected to represent the community of students I serve. These books will provide opportunities to share our similarities and our differences in a safe and nurturing environment where those similarities and differences are celebrated. "The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots responsibility and the wings of Independence." ~Dr. Maria Montessori By allowing students a choice of seating while they work, they are taught to take responsibility for learning, and it helps to increase their attention and focus while nurturing independence. I am new to first grade but have taught TK in another district where I had the opportunity to begin flexible seating and have seen how it provided opportunities for collaboration while building a strong sense of community in the classroom. By supporting this project, you will be helping to increase students' academic achievement and wellbeing in mind, body, and spirit.
