In light of recent events, and the Black Lives Matter Movement, I have realized that my classroom library is severely lacking in diversity and representation of all people. Teaching in a small rural school, my students lack exposure to diversity and lack an understanding of how life is different for people of color. My goal for the new school year is to cultivate a classroom library that is rich in diversity, to help my students begin to question what they know about the world and to help me become a better teacher. I will use these books for interactive read-alouds to teach specific socio-emotional lessons, and to diversify my classroom library. My hope is that I can help these little learners understand the importance of equality for all, no matter the color of one's skin.
