I just finished my first year at my elementary school and I did what I could with the space, equipment, and storage I was provided. However, I want to provide more learning opportunities for my students. Therefore, expanding and replacing broken equipment is one way in doing that. Another way is being able to post inspirational posters and word walls on my wall in my classroom. My students will benefit from the equipment and supplies donated; because I will be able to provide different lesson games I was not able to do this year because of lack of equipment. For an example, there is great game called Catapult. This game requires hula hoops, foam balls, and cones. The game is age-appropriate for K-5 students. During the game you work as a team to knock down the other team’s hula hoop castle. Also each team has a knight that has to guard the castle from balls being catapulted towards it. The other students are the catapults, or the reloaders. The reloaders run around their side of the playing area, handing the catapult a ball. The catapult is on the ground in the curl up position, so in order for them to throw the ball, the students have to perform a sit-up exercise while throwing the ball at the target. After, a castle is knocked down the resets and students take turns changing jobs. This game is great to demonstrate team work, taking turns, accuracy at throwing, and practicing proper form of a curl up.
