These materials will help my life science classroom achieve a classroom pet to study! All the materials will go to teaching two science units. The first unit will be studying the treats, features, and adaptations the tortoise. All the heat lamps and temperature controls will show adaptations the tortoise has to the desert environment and help us look into why the tortoise needs to sun bathe while humans do not. After this we can compare the tortoise to their cousin the turtle and how their adaptions change to fit their environments. This will make the lesson hands on and way more engaging for the students! The second unit will focus on plants, we can grow plants study the cell structure and photosynthesis of them. THEN we can feed them to the tortoise. Having the plants go to feed the tortoise will be more engaging and meaningful for the students. Instead of just cutting plants to go into the trashcan. We instead can predict which ones the tortoise will prefer and will be a great end to the lesson.
