Students in my classroom have various backgrounds, cultures, and experiences and I want to do my best to expose them to literature that allows them to truly see themselves in our classroom. Many of my students do not have access to high-quality picture books at home, which makes it even more important to provide them with some at school. Not only do kindergarteners LOVE picture books, but they love picture books that have characters that look like they do and experience what they have experienced. I can always depend on picture books to use kid-friendly language and connections to help convey important messages and themes for my young students.
