Children need books that are mirrors that allow them to see themselves and their own experiences. Windows that they can look through to see other worlds that they can then compare to their own and Sliding Glass Doors that allow them to enter other worlds. - Rudine Sims Bishop In a world that is struggling to deal with diversity and differences, I feel our children can be the cure if we broaden their minds and perspectives. Through this project, my hope is to help my students have those mirrors when they need them, those windows to explore the worlds of others, and sliding glass doors so that they can explore other cultures. I truly feel that by educating and allowing our students to see and celebrate our similarities as well as our differences we can create a better world for them and ourselves as they grow older to take our places. We can create a world where they understand that it is ok to be different yet equal, a world where everyone deserves love, hope, and kindness.
