More than half of my honor students come from low-income families. Currently, with digital learning, families will need to decide where to spend their hard-earned dollars—laptops, tablets, or Chromebooks. I foresee calculators taking a back seat to these other devices. For my junior and senior students taking International Baccalaureate (IB) math and advanced placement (AP) statistics, graphing calculators will be inaccessible. My class set of 30 graphing calculators is over ten-years-old and is beginning to fail. I am unable to allow students to take them home for homework since I have 120+ students who need to use them daily. My students will benefit from being able to check out these graphing calculators to use at home. This will build confidence in using graphing calculators. They will have time to explore and build knowledge about the math topics they will be learning. Since the exams require the use of these tools, practice with graphing calculators will be of high importance. There is a definite difference between students who have a calculator at home from those who don't have one to use consistently when it comes to completing a test under time constraints.
