My students persevered and did the best they could with distance learning through Google slides, Fliggrid videos, and pdf work pages. Not knowing what school will look like in the fall, I want to be prepared to help their learning reach new levels through our reading. This is possible with distance learning or in class learning. The picture books listed in this project will be used as mentor texts to teach reading strategies and skills. I will read the books making notes of teaching points for reading, writing, language, and vocabulary skills and strategies. The books will be read aloud first for students to become familiar with the storyline. The next time students hear the story I will be teaching a strategy or skill for them to apply in their own work. There are multiple skills to be taught in each book providing students with the opportunity to dive deeper into the text each time we read.
