My students use my classroom as their safe haven. This is where they know they can be themselves without judgement or ridicule. Part of being themselves involves bringing items to my classroom that give them a sense of security and comfort. That is where the white cubbies come into play! This is a helpful organizational tool for my group of students who thrive on personal space and organization. Each student will have their own cubby to protect not only their daily classroom materials but also their personal “safety nets.” Another aspect of my classroom involves life skills instruction. My students are continuously learning how to be contributing and valuable members of their community. We are often talking about future jobs and careers. We have a classroom snack and drink cart. My students take the cart to various teachers around the school and work jobs such as servers, cashiers, and drivers. This year I would like to add a shelf organizer. That is why I included a three-tiered shelf. My students would be organizing, counting and distributing goods while smiling and having fun.
