The students in my classroom come from diverse background, yet my book collection does not reflect the many cultures in my class. The books will show positive examples of people in different cultures. The books have characters the students can relate to and promote a positive image. Books that promote a positive image will help the students build a feeling of belonging to the community. My wish is for the students to develop empathy for their classmates. Through the stories, and different activities I will build a learning commmunity that promotes empathy for the class, school and the community.
