My students and families have been amazing, creative, engaged and willing to participate in the virtual learning world. However, in reality, a huge barrier has been the limited access to resources and basic supplies the majority of my students and families face. Having the materials I selected would ensure my students access and allow us to broaden the activities we can engage in together for continued hands on learning from home. The materials I selected are specifically meant to target skills we would work on together in their OT sessions when we were still going to school- hand strength, school tool use, fine motor coordination, pre-writing and writing skills. These materials would allow me to make individualized kits for each of my students, for hands on, creative and fun learning! Play dough works on hand strength and can be used to make letters, words and practice cutting. Jumbo markers help small hands to color, draw and write letters and numbers. Markers, construction paper and glue allow us to make art while addressing fine motor and visual motor skills. Pipe cleaners, pony beads, pom poms and tweezers tongs facilitate fine motor skills and can be used for warm up activities, art projects and so much more.
