Drumming is an important part of student life, along with musical growth. I plan on using percussion as a way to strengthen our rhythmic reading, rhythm retention, sight-reading skills, self-discipline, ensemble work, and preparation for 5th-grade recorders and beginner band. By donating to this project, you will be giving my students the opportunity to do something they love while becoming part of a performing percussion ensemble. One of my goals is to begin developing and strengthen my students’ sight readings skills. We do rhythm reading and dictation at the beginning of class and through learning new music. By being able to read, identify, count, and play, their learning encompasses many learning styles in one activity. Drum pads are a relatively cost-effective way to create a percussion ensemble on an elementary level. Percussion ensemble can teach students to listen across the group and how to work as a team.
