Picture this. Seventh graders having the opportunity to be hands-on creative problem solvers in a collaborative setting in a language arts class! What? In language arts?! Yes! As a part of our language arts standards, many components involve students being able to think critically and be problem solvers. Not only that, but they are also expected to interact effectively with others. The critical thinking items that I am requesting will be incorporating outside of the box strategy in my class. Surprising them with a time set aside to use these skills in a very different manner, compared to them reading a piece of text, will help them to strengthen these life skills! Middle school students are typically strong visual learners, so these puzzle challenges will be perfect!
