Our classroom is located in a rural area with most students coming from low-income households. During the COVID-19 school closures, my students with moderate-severe disabilities struggle with equity and access to distance learning. In addition, the manipulatives, sensory supports, and project-based learning will support remote learning during summer school. Furthermore, the materials included in this project will help support and enhance lesson plans throughout the extended school year. These materials will bring hands-on learning directly to our student's homes, providing opportunities for them to learn through play and lessons aligned to the curriculum and California Preschool Learning Foundations. Additionally, the sensory supports included will bring supports provided in the classroom to their homes. Promoting opportunities to extend attention to learning and self-regulation. I chose specific materials that will help support our students and provide the lessons in their homes, through hands-on materials and sensory supports. My students are 3-5-year-olds, making hands-on materials the most effective form of teaching. By providing them with these materials I will be able to support the lessons through distance learning. Access to sensory supports and materials has proven crucial to academic progress and socialization for my students, and your support of this project will make all the difference!
