Materials such as a CD player and read along books are very important components of a fully functioning listening center. In addition to a CD player and read along books, sound phones are also important for 1st graders to use when developing their reading skills. Sound phones allows students to hear themselves as they read aloud and guides their focus on their phonemic awareness skills. A fully functioning listening center will help my to develop their reading fluency. Listening to reading can also help my students to better track text, read with expression, and enhance their listening comprehension skills. Listening to reading is important because it will allow my students to listen to a fluent reader while closely following along with a text.
