For many students, kindergarten is the first time they have been away from family members for an extended period of time. They are sometimes afraid of the unknown. With your assistance, those such feelings will no longer occur. My students have a wooden kitchen that they have gathered around since day one. The outgoing ones barked out orders, while others just froze in place. Neither of them understood why they behaved differently. They just knew they wanted to be in the kitchen. How could this happen? Thus, came the mighty chili pepper. The students shared a liking of the chili pepper and began talking. This led to more talking. Suddenly, friendships formed. A simple pepper led the way to learning the foundation of social skills. This is just one example of the power of dramatic play. With your help, the kitchen can be restocked and more friendships can be cooked up!
