This year, I am introducing discovery centers into my first-grade classroom. These centers will provide flexible seating options during our morning instruction, and then they will be used for student-led "discovery time" in the afternoon. These centers will include art/maker-space, math, reading, writing, science, and building. Students will be able to use their creativity and curiosity to explore topics that interest them, learn about something new, and express what they have learned in a variety of ways. Providing my students with these materials will help them take an interest in new subjects and build relationships with other students as they work together!
