As an art teacher for students with autism in a NYC public school special needs setting, I am not only charged with giving my students an arts education, but a proving ground to generalize the skills they are learning with their classroom teachers and therapists. Engagement in art making supports students with autism in developing creative self expression, attention to task, fine motor and communication skills, sensory integration, cognitive flexibility and so much more! The pandemic has forced us to move to remote learning without preparation and left many of my students without the necessary supplies to make art.

About my class
