Each morning, my students will begin the school day with some gentle yoga stretches or guided meditation with the emphasis on positive self-talk and affirmations. I have been designing lesson plans so that I can teach more in-depth yoga classes once per week. Yoga has been proven to improve both mental and physical health, as well as increase academic performance. Students will practice positive affirmations to increase their self-esteem and confidence. They will also be given the tools to be mindful of their own actions as well as the impact they have on those around them. My students have specifically asked for tools to help deal with stress and anxiety, and I believe practicing yoga will help them learn how to reduce these feelings. Our hope is to spread good feelings and vibes throughout the school.
