I want you to think about going school supply shopping with your family as an elementary school student. For me, it was the highlight to the closing of summer. I didn't necessarily get every single item I wanted (milky gel pens and Lisa Frank erasers,) but I was never acutely aware of the prices and growing total of my shopping cart. I was always able to show up on my first day with every item crossed off the list. I'm sure I'm not the only one who shared this same experience. Now for my students and their families, school supply shopping looks a little different, especially this year with the multiplying financial impact of COVID-19. It's usually a stressful time for my students' families as they try to purchase everything on our yearly school supply list, which totals about $150 per student. My team and staff work incredibly hard to fill the gaps and help every child get the school supplies they need to be successful, but I'm afraid this year it will be more difficult than ever. My students need pencils, scissors, crayons, erasers, classroom snacks, newsletter paper, and more to be successful at school. I'm hoping to provide a completed school supply bundle for each one of my students. By helping provide school supplies for the 2020-2021 school year, you will be taking some stress off our families, students, and staff. They can worry less about purchasing their supplies, and more about learning in first grade. My classroom is filled with the next difference makers of the world. I've got future engineers, teachers, lawyers, healthcare workers, politicians, activists, and authors...and how amazing would it be for them to not have to worry about their school supplies for the 2020-2021 school year.
