The Family Art Backpack Project will provide our ELL students with resources to bring learning home and engage their families in literacy activities. Many of our ELL families do not have access to technology and therefore are unable to connect to a good deal of online learning opportunities. Creating partnerships with our ELL families will build a home-school culture of learning. By creating Family Art Backpacks, our ELLs can check out a backpack filled with books, journals, and art supplies. Engaging our ELL families in art and literacy activities will draw upon their funds of knowledge and cultural capital to improve their English literacy skills and optimize learning outcomes.
