It’s difficult to overstate how important reading and language are. These skills are the foundation for a lifetime of success, so it’s important to not only teach these skills, but to find fun exciting ways to get the students excited about learning these skills. When children are invested in these skills, they will build a strong foundation for all learning. One tried-and-true method for building literacy skills for kindergarteners is through the use of fun phonetic activities. Phonics is the relationships between letters and the sounds they make. Learning phonics will help young students decode words, learn how they’re pronounced, and what they mean. This will give them a strong foundation with reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension. These phonetical games and activities will make learning and teaching phonetic awareness and reading fun for all students, while also giving me resources to pinpoint those students who may be struggling with the phonetic/reading concept, that may need that extra individual support. Also the flex seating for my classroom will contribute to the idea that reading is a relaxing and fun activity, not a chore or a burden. The flex seating will go into my classroom library. My students already have shown an interest in phonetic awareness and reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with these skills, along with enhancing them at the same time.
