We are requesting Chromebooks for my eight students who do not have technological devices to access our distance learning program at the present time. This means that each week additional copies have to be made of supplemental materials which are distributed to the students. Parents have to go back to the school to drop off and pick up new assignments. I call students' parents daily and check in with them to see they are doing and whether work is being done. I have not been able to make contact with two parents since our shelter in was started on March 13th. If more Chromebooks are available then I will be able to engage more students and fill my teaching obligations. I will have students sign into TEAMS our distance learning program so I can video conference with them on a daily basis. I have daily read aloud and shared reading activities. With these Chromebooks, students will respond to the texts read by asking and answering questions. They can demonstrate their understanding of key concepts by showing their work on Class Notebook. They get to learn important Science and Social Studies concepts. They also get to participate in the specialist areas: Art, Music, Gym, Steam Coding and Library. They practice skills already learned on online websites including iReady, Moby Max and Lexia. I am afraid that their will be a wider achievement gap between my students and their peers in the surrounding wealthy neighborhoods if these students do not get the materials they need to continue learning.
