How do kindergartners learn best? By learning and working together! My favorite part of my day is when we gather together on the carpet to share ideas, laugh during read alouds, write down our thoughts, and learn to listen to each other. A majority of our day is spent on the carpet. I would love a carpet that is big enough for my students to feel like they have enough space to sit the way that makes them feel comfortable so that they can be engaged in the learning. Imagine you are engaged in a great children's book being read by the teacher and you try to put your legs out but then you accidentally kick the person in front of you. Kids need to be able to be comfortable in their own space and a bigger rug would do just that. My kids also love using the rug as a place to race toy cars, put together puzzles, and build towns with LEGOs.
