I teach elementary education within New York State. In our district, we educate the poorest students in the state. 100% of the students within our school receive free lunch due to their poverty levels. Despite their families financial status and the difficult lives they have been given my students come in ready to learn. My students are Kindergarten-2nd graders. All of my students receive daily special education support. My special education students need to connect virtually with their teachers! They are technology and manipulative-driven with their learning. Technology allows them to gain computer use and knowledge in the 21st Century, have manipulatives available for their use at the click of a mouse, and allow me to monitor and adjust their learning as needed. Technology would also allow me to be in front of them to teach while having to teach from home due to our current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic. Our school district was only able to provide technology for students in grades 6-12. This means that none of my students can be reached as needed. None of them are unable to receive instruction in the ways most beneficial for them.
