Flexible seating is an important part in the classroom because it gives students a choice. By choosing their seat and spot, they feel empowered. Flexible seating creates comfort within the classroom. Uncomfortable students are distracted and disengaged. Flexible seating creates a community that promotes communication and collaboration. It encourages students to share items and take turns. It allows for easy movement transitions for creative partner or group work. All of which helps a student prepare for the real world. Plus flexible seating is fun! It is an easy way to give rewards. I will use flexible seating in the classroom to create student responsibility and accountability.
