Getting an iPad as instructional technology for my classroom will allow projection of screen content for full classroom engagement. Students will be able to view full music scores in real-time, better learning how the music should sound, who shares their part, and what notes and markings to add to their own music. The efficiency of teaching and learning will increase. More than 400 students across eight grade levels will have an enriched music education environment as a result of this project. Students who tend to be visual learners will have instruction that better serves them. The aural art of music will be reinforced visually. Previously teacher-driven lessons will now invite students to question, listen, challenge, contribute, and deepen musical learning. An Apple Pencil allows me to circle, highlight, manipulate, and model concepts in the music for all students to easily see. A footswitch controller allows me to lead students in instantly applying their learning while I conduct. The MIDI Bluetooth keyboard allows me to use the iPad as a virtual piano to demonstrate and give aural examples. The entire setup is mobile and will allow me free movement to help more students. It will also be easily transferred between the six buildings I teach in. Some of our classrooms do not currently have a piano, and this technology would give students a better concept of sound and the sounds they should be making on their instruments at a fraction of the cost of a new piano.
